What a Week!
Up in Smoke

Up in Smoke
The Cutty Sark has burned down to almost nothing. At 17 knots, she was the fastest clipper bringing tea from China to England during the height of empire. She was 138 years old and undergoing renovations when she burned May 21, 2007. Read all about it at the Beeb.

The Earth is the center of the universe!
Forget all that science crap. What'd science ever do for you? But seriously, in a week where the launch of a "creationist museum" that puts men and dinosaurs side-by-side, we have this story of a politician and his supporters. Their take: If you foolishly believe that the Earth revolves around the Sun, then you've been brainwashed by scientists.

Teach the controversy
I might have to expand this into a full opinion article one day. Japan occupied Korea from 1912 to 1945. During that time, Korean women were forced into prostitution by and for the Japanese army. Japan has steadfastly refused to apologize, leading to the US Congress considering censuring Japan over this issue. Now, many Koreans are angry that a Japanese author's "fictionalized autobiography" of being forced to flee Korea after WWII is being taught in American schools. Students who have read the book expressed sympathy for the poor Japanese and stated that Koreans were evil people.

Jack Sparrow, meet Black Bart
This is the history of the man on whom Pirates of the Caribbean's Jack Sparrow is based. And it ain't Keith Richards!

FUN FINAL NOTE

Mt. Cleese
John Cleese vs Palmerston North, New Zealand. One's a big pile of [s]crap.
