Chobe River, a photo essay
I spent a few days living on the edge of the Chobe River in Botswana. Here's a photo essay of a selecton of the many animals that I saw.

This first photo was taken at dusk (I love my camera!) You can see the full moon behind the elephant. Also note the smaller elephant walking out of frame to the right. That's the baby that I almost hit with my car. And you can see the sun setting behind me in my car mirror.

This impala walked down to the waterfront right in front of us. For a skittish animal, it really didn't seem too worried about us (but it did keep an eye on us).

Our first elephants of the evening cruise. This mother and children tolerated us getting quite close, although the older child kept flapping his ears at us (I think that's a sign of irritation).

There are so many beautiful birds here. They all have so much colour, especially blue.

This young baboon ran up to the shore right by our boat and grabbed this leaf.

Hippo pictures! (I have lots more)

I so wanted a picture of a hippo with an open mouth. This was the best shot that I got.

Mom and baby hippo.

Apparently elephants really like playing in the water. We watched this pair play and eat for a good 15 minutes.

It wouldn't be a river in Africa if there wasn't at least one crococdile. This one was smaller than the one we saw on the Kunene River at the hippo pools, but we also got much closer to this one.

This lodge is on the Nambian side of the river.

A large, distant herd of elephants. We heard them calling each other before we saw them. There were two groups that came together.

Hippos at sunset, watching us as we went by.

The full moon rises over the Chobe River, as we returned to our hotel.
