ABOUT THE PERSON
If you haven't already noticed, my name is Stephen G Parks.
After years of working as a web developer, content writer, information architect, editor, and a variety of other jobs, I decided that I wanted something better from my life than living in a cubicle.
Now I teach English in Ohangwena, Namibia. Previous stops have included both Busan and Bundang, South Korea; Barcelona, Spain; and Toronto, Canada(!). Maybe I’ll make “World Tour” t-shirts.
I’ve been traveling a fair bit and pieces of those travels will show up throughout this site. Eventually.
Along the way, I’ve managed to acquire both CELTA and TESOL certifications and have taught English as a Foreign Language to any number of children from Europe, Latin America, Namibia and especially South Korea.
There’s a whole generation of South Korean children who walk around with a pencil tucked behind their ears. That’s my fault. Probably it’ll be my lasting contribution to that country.
ABOUT THE SITE
This site is a personal project. All of the photos and images used on the site were taken by me (or in one or two cases, are photos of me taken with my camera). All written content has been created by me. The coding of this site was also done by me, using Dreamweaver and a test version of Coda (Coda is better for stylesheets, but overall I'll stick with my old version of Dreamweaver). I am using an open source/public domain javascript, it is properly credited in the source code as per authors' instructions however, I have not made the source code readable, so I'l list it here also: the random number generating script that I'm using is "Copyright 2002 Bontrager Connection, LLC."
The impetus for this site comes from a number of directions. First, I like playing with design elements and concepts, and miss working in a creative environment (not that teaching isn't creative, it's just different skills). Second, although I understand my family's desire to be more involved in my life, I loath the idea of creating a blog. This site makes a balance between their desires and my vanity. Third, I do have ideas that I'd like to express and I really should do more creative writing than I have been in the past few years.
If you wish, you can contact me. A few people have.
